Longmen Cave Temple is located 14km south of Luoyang City. East Hill and West Hill stands each other, it seems to be a natural gate "Yiqu (gate of Yi River)".
In Sui Dynasty the palace gate was facing "Yiqu". So that the named Longmen (the Emperor's Gate).
Caves are dotted 1 kilometer long along Yi River.
The Chief Buddha Losana : "Fengxiansi" The first cave was taken up in 493 AD (Northern Wei Dynasty), then until Northern Song Dynasty (through 6 Dynasties ) constructions of caves were never interrupted. |
