Xi'an, formerly called Chong'an, was one of the four biggest ancient capitals in the world. The other three were Rome, Athens and Cairo. In the dynasties of Han and Tong, Chang'an was world famous for the starting point of "Silk Road". The City was gathered with a markedly international character.
Bell Tower stands in the center of Xi'an, at the intersection of the North, the South, the East and the West streets. The Tower was built in 1384 of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It was moved to the present site in 1582.
Evening glow at Bell Tower It is a 36 meters high square wooden building that is roofed by green glazed tiles. Bell Tower used to tell the morning time (opening the gates time) daily. |
