The gateway to Xieng Khuang, Phonsavan is new capital of the province. As we approached Xieng Khuang wasteland surprised me.
Phonsavan airport : just like a Western film I never heard Lao was battlefield in the war of Vietnam, and the original Xieng Khuang's capital was bombed out at that. The US-bombing took most of lives, and erased many towns and small villages. The news gave me a shock. Till I was here, I knew noting about Lao. Immigration desk : Whenever you enter and leave a province, you have to inform at checkpoint (police office or customs) desks. |
Enigmatic scenery : 2000 years old "Jars" Large and small stone jars are scattered about an undulating plain Easy access of Phonsavan is site 1. It takes 30minutes ride by car from center of town. The site has a stand, pavilion and restrooms. This field consists of two sites and one cave. You'll find the largest one and the jar which is human-shape carved on. Entrance fee is 4000kip
Used as rice storage or for wine jars sarcophagi or cups of giants Who, for what or how to make numberless stone jars, these questions still remain mysteries. |
