Laos is surrounded by five countries, as China, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The best way to go Vientiane by land is Nong Khai (Thailand) route. Two countries connect by Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge.
Thai immigration control Shuttle buses across the river for 10B per person. Vientiane is 25km away from here. It's 700kip by bus, 150B by taxi, 100B by jumbo to town.

Built in 1818 (or 1824?) by King Anou. This Wat is the only one that retains its original form in spite of several wars. In other wards, it's the oldest temples in Vientiane.

According to the Lao, this temple was built in 1565 to house Emerald Buddha image. During the end of 18th century to the first of 19th century, the Siamese invading army destroyed the town and temples. At that time Emerald Buddha was stolen away to Bangkok.

Xieng Khuan, often called "Buddha Park", takes 30 minutes ride by car from center of Vientiane. This temple (park) built in 1958 by Luang Puu. Gods of Hindu, Buddha images, Naga, etc.. The Park is full to overcrowding with fantastic shapes.
