King Kynsittha : 1084-1113 Modeled on Mahabodhi Temple in India, decorated square tower is outstanding in Bagan. Original temple in Bodhgaya, northeast part of India was built by King Ashoka in the 2nd century. |
Archaeological Museum (admission 5US$) Buddha images in due order of period, scale model of Temples, stone monuments, various kinds of artifacts in Bagan are there. Especially I had interested in stone monuments. Do you remember "Thought of Donation" ? They built Pagodas and attached their requests with inscribe on the stones. Array of stone monuments force appeal us of their desires.
Start in upper right corner "Spear" and draw his rebirth in counterclockwise. 4th "The three lines on the neck", 9th "Palace", 11th "White umbrella", 13th "Palm leaf fan"..., 33-36th "The four great continents", 40th "Pair of golden fish"..., 68th "King of the lions"..., 93-108th "The 16 Brahma planes". Finally he was born as prince of Shakya clan named Siddhartha. |
Gawdawpalin Temple from the roof of Archaeological Museum Built between 1174 and 1211 by King Nrapatisithu, 55 meters heights this is second highest temple in Bagan. If I had climbed upper terrace of this temple I could see nice river view. Unfortunately almost all temples in Bagan not allow climb second floor today. |
