1320m heights above sea level Kalaw is small town in the mountains well known as summer resort and trekking base. The town spread from the center of market lies halfway between Taunggi and Thazi. Without bustle of tourists you can stay here in quiet. |
On the way to Pagoda I saw children amused themselves by playing games. They snapped pieces to hit others and drop into hole of the four corners. It's look like "Billiard" isn't it?
Pagodas in front of Cave There is cave temple named "Shwe Oo Min Ancient Pagoda" on the outskirts of the town. You can 30minutes walk to there by foot from the market.
|
Way to Pindaya Huge cave temple with countless Buddha images Pindaya is famous as Pindaya Cave located 50km north from Kalaw. From Kalaw there is no direct bus to Pindaya I chartered taxi to there. When car passed junction to Pindaya I noticed landscape was changed. Suddenly something dear scene opens up before my eyes, these were remained me of Biei in Hokkaido.
Gate of Pindaya Cave is modern elevator Pindaya Cave rise like as folding screen back to Pindaya town. |
Elevator is free but you have to pay 3US$ at the entrance counter. Set foot in the cave whole world around us was filled with countless Buddha images. The path inside the cave composed of them is mysterious and complex; it put me in mind of labyrinthine.
Pindaya Lake view from the Cave Temple Approach to second and third caves trained up on the cliff. Bamboo umbrella that monks commonly carry on is the principal product of this district. You can see making process at the shack studio they create umbrellas without machine. I was deeply impressed by their skill. Of course I bought it that same design for monks. |
