Around Mandalay

Around Mandalay there are three ancient capitals, Amarapura, Sagain and Inwa and another old city site Mingun. You can see each of them for one or half day trip. Guidbook said, "Huge unfinished Pagoda remain" I decided to go Mingun.

Boat trip to Mingun

Located 11-km upriver from Mandalay Mingun and on the opposite bank of Ayeyarwaddy River. There is only access by river.

Every morning at 9:00 there are half-day boat service. Round-trip cost is 500-Kyat and it takes 45 minutes to Mingun.

Mingun Pagoda

Unfinished Mingun Pagoda

We landed riverside on the outskirt of the village. You pay 3US$ for entrance this area. Red rock and white gate Mingun Pagoda is force closed to us. If it had been completed this pagoda would have been 150m height the largest one in the world. Now we can see only huge pagoda's base. "Let's climb the Pagoda!"

Shin Phu Me

Shin Phu Me

5-minutes walk from the Pagoda there is beautiful white temple "Shin Phu Me". It is modeled on the legendary temple built on Mt.Meru, and wave baluster modeled their mountain ranges.
