King Alaungsithu : 1113-1163 This is the really highest temple in Bagan. Profoundly 61 meters high building is prominent landmark, you can see it from everywhere in this area. But now day not allow climb second floor for tourists. |
There is the library of Buddhist scriptures named "Pitakat Taik" located between Thatbyinnyu Temple and Taraba Gate. When King Anawrahta's conquest of Thaton, he brought back King of Thaton Manuha, monks, artists, architects and 30 elephant-loads of scriptures. Legend has when 30 elephants pass through the village they stood as firm as a rock just here. So King Anawrahta built "Pitakat Taik" in order to offer Buddhist scriptures in 10578.
